Pather Dabee
This novel was first serialised in the Bangbani Falgoon - Chaitra ([B] 1329), Baishakh, Asharh to Bhadra, Agrahayan to Falgoon ([B] 1330); Jaishtha, Ashwin, Kartik, Poush, Magh ([B] 1331); Baishakh, Jaishtha, Bhadra, Kartik to Falgoon ([B] 1332) and Baishakh ([B] 1333).
Book edition soon followed on 31st August 1926 (Bhadra 1333). Publisher: Uma Prasad Mukherjee. The novel was banned by the Government in 1927 for 'preaching of sedition' under Section 124A of the Indian Penal Code. This ban was lifted on March 1, 1939 by the Fazlul Hoque Governent.
Pather Dabee was staged as drama first on 13th May 1939. On 9th May 1940, another ban was placed by the Muslim League Government under the Dramatic Performance Act. After India's Independence, was staged at the Rangmahal theatre. The second edition was published after the author's death.
Numerous editions have followed ever since.
