Written in his adolescent days, this story was first published in the Jamuna Baishakh through to Ashwin issues of [B] 1320.
First published as a book on 12th March 1916 by MCSBS. The first silent film based on Chandranath was directed by Naresh Mitra
- released in 1924. Amir Malik's translation of Chandranath into Gujarati - called Anupam - was published in 1926. It was translated to
Malayalam as Chandranathan, also that year, by R. Narain Panikkar. Its Hindi translation was done in 1936 by Ramchandra Verma.
That same year a collection of the author's popular stories called "Sarat Sahitya" was published in Hindi.
