KamalakantoA masterpiece of sarcasm, a comment on society, a brilliant literary volume of eleven compositions - all published in the Bangodarshan was first published as Kamalakanter Daptar (From the Desk of Kamalakanto) in book form in 1875 as Part One. Later two more parts were added - Kamalakanter (Letters of Kamalakanto) and Kamalakanter Jabanbandi (Testimony of Kamalakanto) - in its second edition in BY 1292. The collection was then renamed as Kamalakanto. His sharp observations and analyses, clarity of language and application of humour in rebuking the virulent aspects of social malaise brought out the best from Bankim's sarcastic pen.Acknowledgement: Much of the materials for this article was sourced from the Bankim Rachanabali (Complete Works of Bankim Chandra), Tuli-Kalam, Calcutta 1986 |
