Rajsingha

A story of Rajput heroism and Muslim oppression set on (pseudo) historical grounds - first appeared as a serial in the Bangodarshan starting in Chaitra [B] 1284 issue. According to Shrish Chandra Majumdar the author stopped its publication since after the Bhadra [B] 1285 issue for a time as he was led to believe that the character of the outlaw Maniklal (robber) was spoiling the youths. Having been encouraged to recommence, Rajsingha was published in book form in 1882. A number of alterations and significant enlargements were made by the author in the four editions published during his lifetime. Tagore wrote a brilliant essay on Rajsingha which was published in [B] 1300.
