Why ActiveBengali Forum ?   The main purpose of the forum is to debate and propose ways and means of reforming albeit simplifying Bengali script to facilitate computerisation and to develop and agree on a uniform encoding practice for information interchange. In this process we intend to involve the Indian and Bangladeshi Standards organisations and Unicode Consortium. The existing Unicode encoding, based on Indian Standard Code for Information Interchange (ISCII), is grossly inadequate for Bengali language. We invite you and, in turn, you can encourage and welcome anyone interested in joining this forum to please come forward. We want and need linguistic and software development help.  ABF
